HHES Earns Purple Star Designation
Hermon Hutchens Elementary School has been awarded the Purple Star School Program designation for 2026–2029, recognizing its commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families. HHES is the first school in Valdez City Schools to earn this distinction.
This designation reflects intentional efforts to support student transitions, provide staff training, and ensure every student feels connected and supported.
Mission & Philosophy
About Us
Hermon Hutchens Elementary School serves approximately 300 students in preschool through fifth grade and is located in Valdez, Alaska on beautiful Prince William Sound. Our school offers great educational opportunities for every student with curriculum-based best practices. All students also attend "pull out" classes in physical education, art + tech, music, and library.
